Startup Spotlight: Lotus Sirius

Our Startup Spotlight series introduces you to the creative minds in our community, sharing their unique stories and ideas. This week, we put the spotlight on Nilufer Alakas, founder of Lotus Sirius, who aims to digitise yacht manufacturing with AI, blockchain, and IoT technology to streamline production, ensure quality traceability, and reduce build times for shipyards.

What’s your story? How did you come up with the idea for your business?

My approach focuses on addressing the inefficiencies and errors caused by manual processes in traditional industries. I developed the foundation of Lotus Sirius by observing the bottlenecks and process gaps that my clients were facing.

In critical areas like production and quality control, the lack of transparency and trust pushed me to create a new solution. By integrating tamper-proof record systems, AI, AR/VR and industry 4.0 technologies into a single platform, I created my SuperApp model. The goal is to not only enhance production efficiency but also to foster trust, transparency and a culture of innovation in the maritime industry.

Why does the industry need the solution you’re providing?

The marine industry, especially high-value manufacturing areas like yacht production, still relies heavily on manual and fragmented processes. This leads to significant issues like time delays, high costs and production errors. Our solution eliminates these bottlenecks by digitizing the entire process from production to sales.

By combining secure and transparent data management with AI-driven analysis, we minimise errors in production, reduce delivery times and enhance trust among all stakeholders. As a result, the industry gains a more sustainable, transparent and efficient operational framework.

What have you enjoyed most about starting your own company?

What I have enjoyed the most is the freedom and flexibility to address industry challenges with my own perspective. In creating Lotus Sirius, I found the opportunity to develop an innovative approach that aligns with my own values and principles.

With my own company, I am not just solving existing problems but also becoming part of a larger goal: transforming how people and organizations work. This mission fuels my passion and keeps me deeply motivated.

What challenges did you have to overcome at the beginning?

The biggest challenge I faced at the beginning was the resistance that comes with integrating advanced technologies into a highly traditional sector. Introducing a new approach and vision required intense effort to build trust within the industry and to ensure seamless technical integration.

Additionally, combining different technological infrastructures and validating the modules in real-world environments demanded precision and stability. During this period, I created a clear and decisive roadmap that turned these challenges into opportunities, successfully integrating our solution into the sector.

What’s next for your business? Where do you see it in 3-5 years?

Our next goal is to establish Lotus Sirius as the pioneer and leading solution provider for digital transformation in the maritime industry. In the first phase, we aim to strengthen our position in the European and MENA markets by setting a new standard for digital production and process integration.

Afterward, we plan to expand into the U.S and U.K markets and become a strong global player through new partnerships. Within 3-5 years, we envision Lotus Sirius as a reference point in the industry, driving sustainable production, increasing efficiency and elevating customer experience.

Any advice for entrepreneurs just starting out in this space?

My advice to entrepreneurs starting out on this journey is have a clear vision and make sure you’re truly addressing a real problem. There will be many challenges and obstacles at the beginning, so staying focused and consistent is key. It’s also crucial to deeply understand your sector and the technologies you’re working with while staying open to continuous learning. Just be curious and courageous.

And a fun one—what’s a quote or some words that you live by?

“Sometimes the right path is the one you draw for yourself.” This perspective has been a guiding principle for me, both personally and professionally.
