Flux Marine Raises $15 Million to Scale Electric Outboards and Expand Technology

Flux Marine, a developer of electric propulsion systems for recreational and commercial watercraft, has raised $15 million to expand production of its high-voltage electric outboards and grow core technology sales.

The round included participation from existing investors and customers, as well as a new investor, Collide Capital, bringing total funding to over $30 million since 2020.

Flux Marine has fully commercialized its 115HP electric outboard and modular battery system, which remains the only clean-sheet, high-voltage outboard in production in North America. The company has now delivered more high-voltage electric outboards in the region over the past 18 months than any competitor.

Transitioning from Validation to Production

The funding will support Flux Marine’s transition from a two-year, customer-driven fleet validation program to scaled production.

“The ocean environment is unforgiving – so after several years of internal prototyping and testing, we put systems in the hands of early adopters to rigorously validate real-world performance and rapidly iterate through customer feedback,” said Ben Sorkin, CEO of Flux Marine.

“This period of testing with customers required a significant investment of time and resources but contributes to the overall capital efficiency of the company and instills consumer confidence.”

Partnerships with Boat Builders

Flux Marine focuses on propulsion technology, enabling boat builders to integrate electric options into existing hull designs. Its modular powertrain and battery architecture supports rapid rollouts across a range of boat types, including partnerships with Scout Boats, Highfield, Flagship Pontoons, Hyfoil, and most recently, Zodiac.

“Between the no-maintenance closed loop cooling system, innovative belt drive and lower unit, the Flux outboard is the solution,” said Christophe Lavigne, President of Highfield Boats. “We are building the future.”

Investor Stephen Petranek, Operating Partner at Ocean Zero, added: “Flux Marine’s approach empowers boat builders to continue innovating while the company focuses on delivering the best propulsion systems.”

Technology and Telematics

Flux-powered boats are now in use for applications ranging from aquaculture workboats in Maine to rental fleets on lakes and twin-outboard superyacht tenders in the British Virgin Islands.

Flux Marine’s in-house Fleet Telematics Platform provides real-time cellular connectivity, remote diagnostics, over-the-air updates, and system monitoring. Future releases will add AI-powered predictive maintenance and route optimisation.

Developing the electric stack in-house—from power electronics and battery management to software and telematics—allows Flux Marine to control performance, quality, supply chain, and long-term costs. The company is also exploring dual-use applications for uncrewed platforms and other industries.

Expanding Production

With both development and manufacturing operations at its 40,000 sq. ft. Rhode Island facility, Flux Marine is increasing capacity to meet rising global demand.

The company is leveraging its expertise to supply propulsion and energy solutions for marine, undersea, and aerospace applications.

By combining technical expertise, production scale, and a proven track record, Flux Marine is driving the adoption of electric propulsion while supporting a broader transition to domestically manufactured maritime technology.
