nlcomp closes equity crowdfunding campaign

The Italian startup has raised a grand total of €498,500 on Ecomill - a crowdfunding platform dedicated to energy transition and sustainability.

Northern Light Composites (nlcomp) have closed their second equity crowdfunding round on the Ecomill platform, raising a grand total of €498,500.

Founded in 2019 by Fabio Bignolini, Andrea Paduano, and Piernicola Paoletti, nlcomp is developing recyclable composite materials for the construction of sailboats. The Italian startup has developed an award-winning composite technology to address the problems associated with disposal of yachts at the of their life. Boats are frequently abandoned in fields, marinas, and on the seabed, due to the high costs associated with disposal.

The team have presented 4 prototypes to-date (Ecoprimus, EcoOptimist, EcoRacer, and EcoFoiler). The EcoRacer is a candidate for the European Yacht of the Year (which will be awarded at Boot Düsseldorf next year), and recently won "Eco Focused Boat of the Year" at the Boat Builder Awards during METSTRADE in Amsterdam.

The first official renders of their new EcoRacer One Design will shortly be released, during an event held in Genoa at the Blue District next week (13th December at 3pm). This new monotype has been designed by Matteo Polli, a talented Yacht Designer who also sits on the nlcomp board.

The EcoRacer One Design also marks the launch of the EcoRacer Sailing Series - the world’s first sustainable grand prix circuit, taking place aboard recyclable boats. Figures from the EcoRacer Sailing Series project will also be presented during the event in Genoa next week.

An official launch of new EcoRacer One is planned to take place in June 2023, during The Ocean Race grand finale. There will be an Innovation Village during the regatta, and sailors and journalists will have the opportunity to sea trial the EcoRacer One.
