Startup Spotlight: Hooper Quinn
Our Startup Spotlight series introduces you to the entrepreneurs in our community, sharing their unique journeys as founders.

This week, we put the spotlight on Greg Edwards founder of Hooper Quinn, a leading engineering consultancy, product development incubator and advanced technology accelerator, working across F1, automotive and marine.

What’s your story? How did you come up with the idea for your business?

After leaving Formula 1, I wanted to carry forward the parts of that world I loved most – the pace, the precision, and the thrill of solving problems others wouldn’t dare touch – but I knew there was a better way to do it. Too often, performance comes at the expense of culture.

With Hooper Quinn, we set out to prove the opposite: that people do their best work when collaboration is genuine, relationships are strong, and everyone is empowered to push boundaries.

That’s how Hooper Quinn was born – a place where the energy of F1 meets a culture designed for high performance to truly thrive.

Why does the industry need the solution you’re providing?

Brilliant ideas are lost every day in the gap between a founder’s vision and the means to execute it. Most entrepreneurs don’t have the technical background to navigate certification, R&D, or scaling, and existing design agencies rarely go beyond surface-level support. On the other side, F1 Advanced Technology teams have the expertise but little appetite for smaller, high-risk ventures.

Hooper Quinn bridges that gap by providing an end-to-end development pathway that includes patenting, testing, certification, and scale-up. It’s the support founders need to turn bold ideas into real-world breakthroughs.

What have you enjoyed most about starting your own company?

The people and the projects. Every day brings a new challenge, a new industry, and a new opportunity to learn. The team we’ve built at Hooper Quinn inspires me daily through their curiosity, their creativity, and their willingness to push beyond “good enough.”

What challenges did you have to overcome at the beginning?

In the early days, time felt like the biggest barrier. But I learned quickly that “I don’t have time” is really a question of priorities. Spinning all the plates was tough – managing projects, building processes, finding clients – but it forced us to create systems, delegate effectively, and standardise. Those foundations have been vital for growth.

What’s next for your business? Where do you see it in 3-5 years?

We’re growing steadily at around 40% per year, and we see that continuing. The development team is expanding fast, and we’re already supporting production and aftersales on several advanced technology products.

In the next few years, our goal is simple: to be the go-to partner for founders and businesses who want to turn big, bold ideas into market-ready products.

Any advice for entrepreneurs just starting out in this space?

Prioritise ruthlessly. Surround yourself with people who’ve done it before – their lessons are invaluable. And don’t underestimate the importance of marketing. Be prepared to invest in it, and don’t be afraid to outsource it early on so you can focus on building the core of your business.

And a fun one—what’s a quote or some words that you live by?

There’s no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothing.
