Yacht crew app HAVN launches with aim to improve crew wellbeing

A new app designed to improve crew wellbeing and provide trusted local resources has officially launched in the Superyacht industry. HAVN is a central hub for yacht crew, connecting them with vetted providers, services, and events in ports around the world.

The platform has been created by former crew member Michael Davies, who spent over a decade working on yachts of all sizes, including classic sailing yachts, 45m motor yachts, and the Clipper Round the World Race. His career at sea, combined with extensive travel, gave him first-hand insight into the challenges crew face when away from home.

I’ve spent most of my life at sea,” explained HAVN founder Michael. “I started with my first job on a classic 12m sailing yacht and after three years I was managing crews on 45m Superyachts.”

Later I worked as a mate for the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. Having seen the struggles of finding trusted support in foreign ports, I wanted to create a tool that makes that process easier for crew.”

Addressing unique crew challenges

The app has been designed to address the unique pressures of yacht life. “Being a crew member isn’t just a job, it’s a lifestyle, and it comes with unique pressures,” Michael said.

We move between countries constantly, often without the networks or knowledge of what’s available locally. HAVN solves that by being a single, reliable hub that connects crew to vetted services, so they can spend less time worrying and more time enjoying life ashore.”

Through HAVN, crew can access information and services covering health, fitness, wellbeing, cultural activities, and everyday needs such as doctors, gyms, therapists, and local events. The app also includes industry news, knowledge articles, discounts with partners, and access to resources such as CV reviews and contract review tools.

The overall aim is to provide a trusted platform for crew to manage life both on and off the yacht. “Our mission is to be trusted by yacht crew as their concierge service and provider for their life in the industry,” Michael added. “The aim is simple: to support yacht crew in every aspect of their well-being, from a new deckhand to a seasoned captain.”

Lifestyle and wellbeing support

Unlike other platforms, HAVN is not focused on recruitment or job listings. Instead, it provides lifestyle and wellbeing support. “HAVN isn’t about job listings or gossip boards,” he added. “It’s about lifestyle, support, and wellbeing. We connect crew to the best providers for their situation, all in one place, and every conversation with crew members reinforces that HAVN is something the industry genuinely needs.”

The launch of HAVN marks the beginning of a growth phase for the company. In the coming months, HAVN will expand its network of partners across key Mediterranean ports, including Palma, Antibes, and Barcelona.

The next six months are a pivotal period for HAVN as they prepare for their official launch, work on expanding their partnerships and refine the app experience based on the feedback from initial users.

To celebrate the launch of the app, HAVN is hosting an exclusive event on the 19th October at Terreno Club in Palma, Mallorca, where yacht crew can get involved in wellbeing activities, including ice baths and a padél tournament. Interested crew can purchase tickets here.

The first 100 crew members who sign up for the platform at the launch event will be given early access to test the platform and provide feedback ahead of a wider rollout.
