Zparq has advanced its work in electric marine propulsion over the past six months, focusing on electric motors and integrated powertrains for recreational boats and commercial vessels to provide efficient, low-maintenance, and sustainable propulsion systems.
In anticipation of the 2025 commercial debut of their first outboard motor, the Z10, the company has launched a new website, collecting registrations of interest.
Zparq has made strides in building its intellectual property portfolio, securing a U.S. patent for its Hyper Flow Cooling technology and submitting design patents in the EU, US, and other regions. The company has also filed a patent for its innovative battery technology, further reinforcing its leadership in energy-efficient marine solutions.
Industry recognition continues to grow, with Zparq being featured in Sifted’s “Early Stage Startups to Watch” list. The startup has also advanced to the final stages of the Startup World Cup in Sweden, a global competition offering a $1 million investment prize. Additionally, Zparq recently won a design award in the Big SEE competition, recognizing the impressive design of its Z10 outboard motor.
While Zparq has not yet launched any commercial products, it is actively involved in several ongoing projects with key partners. These include a joint project with an undisclosed Tier 1 industrial partner focused on developing a proof-of-concept repowering solution. The Swedish Sea Rescue Society (SSRS) has partnered with Zparq to develop a full-scale emission-free rescue boat. Additionally, the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm (KTH) and its Research Centre for Maritime Robotics (SMaRC) have deployed Zparq’s technology on a UAV used in an Arctic expedition.
To date, Zparq has raised €2.5 million in funding. Previous investors include Santander Climate Fund, Almi Invest GreenTech and EIT InnoEnergy. Zparq Co-founder and CEO Jonas Genchel comments: “We are thrilled to collaborate with high demanding partners like the Swedish Sea Rescue Society and KTH’s Maritime Robotics Centre. These projects allow us to demonstrate the potential of our technology in real-world applications and drive innovation in marine propulsion.”
Zparq plans to ramp up its sales and marketing efforts while developing motors for higher power segments and various applications. Looking ahead, Zparq aims to expand into the Nordic, European, and US markets. The company will showcase its innovations at several upcoming events, including METSTRADE in Amsterdam in November.
