ampStay installs cable-mounted wind turbine on racing yacht “SY Release”

ampStay Wind Energy, a pioneer in innovative wind energy solutions for maritime applications, is thrilled to announce a significant milestone in its journey toward energy autonomy at sea.

Over the past few days, ampStay successfully equipped “SY Release”, the racing yacht of Max Miller, Vice World Champion in doublehand sailing, with its patented cable-mounted wind turbine.

This installation marks the completion of ampStay’s Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and demonstrates the technological maturity required for series production.

The installation on “SY Release” is particularly noteworthy due to the extreme technical demands of racing yachts, where robustness, practicality, and performance are even more critical than in standard sailing vessels.

Max Miller, a seasoned sailor with a deep understanding of the challenges faced in competitive sailing, shared his enthusiasm for the ampStay solution:

“Sailing is to be about as close as you can in nature. So we try to sail as self-sustainable as possible and as emission-free as we can. For racing regattas, normal wind turbines are impossible. They are way too heavy, way too big, and all in the way.

So we were looking for something versatile that gives us the opportunity to produce sustainable electric power. It had to be really flexible, powerful enough, and easy to install and remove.

All this we found in the ampStay solution. Mounting doesn’t take a lot of time, the storage is easy, so I can set it up and use it when I want. And it’s super quiet! Basically, you don’t hear it at all. That’s one main advantage and that’s what we were looking for.”

With this installation, “SY Release” will now be fully energy-autonomous, powered by the ampStay turbine which is continuously charging the yacht’s batteries.

The yacht is set to participate in numerous high-profile sailing events and regattas this year, serving as a floating testimonial for ampStay’s groundbreaking innovation. Visitors in marinas across Europe will have the opportunity to see the turbine in action and learn about its benefits firsthand.

Additionally, “SY Release” is equipped with state-of-the-art onboard electronics that will continuously record meteorological and performance data.

This real-time data, combined with Max Miller’s practical feedback, will enable ampStay to further refine its product and provide even better support to its customers.

This milestone also signals ampStay’s next phase: securing a partner to finance the series production of the turbine. With over 50 pre-orders already received, the company is eager to move quickly to meet the growing demand from impatient customers worldwide.
