6 electric boat startups to watch in 2025

The recent surge in startups creating new electric boats and technology has been an undeniably exciting period for boaters and industry spectators alike. Building on the momentum created by the electric car sector, the market for electric propulsion alternatives in the boating industry is set to reach $16.6 billion by 2031.

The global move towards quieter, greener technologies is now more accessible for boaters through new cutting-edge designs, cheaper battery modules and trailblazing entrepreneurs creating their own paths and technologies.

This article will introduce some of the startups that are poised to make a significant impact on the shift towards electrification and positively impact this fast-paced industry.

ENVGO

Based in Waterloo, Canada, ENVGO develops electric hydro-foiling boats designed for high performance and sustainability. Their flagship model, the NV1, features dual electric motors and an advanced flight control system, offering a range of up to 80 miles and speeds up to 50 mph.

Founded with a commitment to redefine the marine industry, ENVGO has partnered with yacht designer David J. Weiss, and earned recognition through programs such as MaRS Discovery District, SDTC Seed Funding, as well as having been awarded the 2024 Gustave Trouvé Award for Excellence in Electric Boats and Boating.

Pollentia

Pollentia, founded in 2021 by Tyler Temple and Ivan Shterev, brings to the market their flagship model, Ventus, with the aim of leading the transition to sustainable maritime travel through innovative and efficient solutions. Ventus is a 40-foot electric boat designed with luxury in mind, and aims to reach speeds of up to 40 knots and a range of 300 nautical miles.

Notably, Ventus features an AI co-captain designed to offer real time weather updates, route tips and maintenance alerts. Through connectivity with the propulsion modules, the system also features auto-docking, ensuring smooth, error-free docking after a long day out.

Voltaic Marine

Catering to the sportier side of the market, Voltaic Marine designs and builds electric-powered wake boats, offering a combination of quiet performance and luxury. Their AEW24 model is powered by a 300 kWh battery which delivers a staggering 570-600hp, providing an all-day performance boat perfect for water-sports enthusiasts.

Founded by Richard Phamdo and based in Michigan, USA, Voltaic Marine’s aim is to replace the noise and vibrations of traditional engines with a smooth, silent ride, combined with custom design options that blend advanced technologies and luxurious features.

Archipelago Expedition Yachts

Founded by Dr. Stephen Weatherly and based in Hampshire, UK, Archipelago Expedition Yachts specialise in creating high performance luxury catamarans capable of ocean crossings. Their diverse range of aluminium yachts are powered by hybrid diesel-electric systems for efficiency and minimal environmental impact. The Archipelago 47, the brand’s flagship model, offers a blend of performance, range, and luxurious accommodation for explorers and families alike.

Archipelago Yachts prioritise sustainability, accessibility and customisation, and by working closely with their clients they are able to meet their specific needs.

Supiore

Based in Amsterdam, Supiore focuses on offering sustainable and hassle-free boating solutions. The Supiore Uni is a 5.2 metre electric boat featuring a solar-powered foredeck, a quiet electric motor, and a maintenance free epoxy frame. With a top speed of 12 km/h and a range of up to 8 hours with an additional battery pack, the canals of inner cities are ready to be explored.

In addition to the watercraft, Supiore offers a premium membership program through ShareBoats, allowing users to enjoy the boating lifestyle without the responsibilities and high costs of ownership.

Optima Yachts

Optima Yachts develops electric luxury boats focussed on having a minimal carbon footprint and advanced technology. In 2023, the startup’s first major model, the Optima e10, was honoured with being the first electric boat to circumnavigate the Isle of Wight, demonstrating the potential of electric yachts for long-distance travel.

David and Chloe Kendall, co-founders of Optima Yachts, plan to launch the e14, continuing on the company’s focus on combining electric propulsion with energy efficiency in mind, as well as using advanced hull technology to reduce energy consumption.
