Emerald raises €60M to invest in water solutions startups

Emerald Technology Ventures has raised €60 million (US$69 million) in the first close of its Global Water Fund II, which will invest in startups developing solutions to address global water challenges.

The Switzerland-based venture capital firm, focused on industrial sustainability, is targeting a total fund size of €150–180 million. Its first Global Water Fund closed in 2020 with US$100 million in commitments from investors including Temasek, Microsoft, and Ecolab.

Investing across the water value chain

Global Water Fund II will invest in early- to growth-stage companies worldwide, backing innovations across the full water value chain. Focus areas include infrastructure resilience, advanced water treatment and reuse, digital monitoring and automation, and solutions targeting emerging contaminants.

As climate and infrastructure shocks intensify, resilience in our water systems is essential,” said Dr Helge Daebel, Partner at Emerald.

From smarter monitoring to advanced treatment, digital and AI-driven technologies are unlocking new efficiencies and insights. Yet, they also remind us of water’s critical role in enabling innovation itself, from cooling the very data centres that power these tools to sustaining life and industry alike.

Strategic backing from industry leaders

The first close includes anchor commitments from Veralto Corporation, a water analytics and treatment solutions company, and Ecolab, a global provider of water, hygiene, and infection prevention services. Additional investors include SKion Water and Oxy Technology Ventures.

We believe that safeguarding one of the world’s most vital resources – water – requires both collaboration and innovation that is sustainable,” said Melissa Aquino, Senior Vice President and Chief Segment Officer of Water Quality at Veralto.

She added: “Our anchor investment reflects our deep commitment to accelerating breakthrough technologies that address the urgent realities of water scarcity, treatment and reuse.”

Emerald Technology Ventures’ latest fund builds on its long-standing experience in sustainability-focused investing, as it continues to support scalable technologies driving environmental resilience and industrial efficiency.
